Surrey Fire Hall #6

Location
Surrey, BC
Completion
2004
Size
3,500 sq ft – 325 sq m

Boldwing Continuum was commissioned by the City of Surrey to provide architectural, interior design and building envelope services for the renovation of their existing Fire Hall #6.

The Fire Services Department was mandated to extend the lifespan of this municipal facility by another 15 years, with the primary objective to improve personnel liveability and response time within the facility. Additional requirements included updating the exterior finishes as permitted by budget and provide a greater civic presence.

The interior renovation involved the reconfiguration and refurbishment of the common living area, galley kitchen, dispatch radio room, gear turnout room, captain's office and quarters as well as the relocation of the weight room to the main floor. In accordance with new requirements, the renovation also included the provision of washrooms, locker and change rooms for both genders along with upgraded sleeping quarters.

The exterior renovation was limited to the replacement of the original single-glazed windows, entrance doors and the repainting of the existing siding and facia, thereby permitting the majority of the funding to be expended on the liveability of the facility.

Triton Center

Location
Surrey, BC
Completion
2015
Size
55,292 sq ft – 5,140 sq m

Boldwing Continuum was approached by Triton Ventures Corporation to provide architectural, interior design and planning liaison services for the design of a new multi-tenant commercial and office strata center.

Triton Center consists of a two-story commercial building that was developed on a vacant section of the Surrey West Supercenter by Smart Centers. The project site development was substantially restricted by the existing BC Hydro and Fortis BC ROWs to the south, diagonally dividing the site, as well as the vegetated earth berm and storm detention pond to the north, greatly restricting the allowable building area and configuration. Design development resolved these restrictions by maximizing the building within the remaining area and utilizing the ROW for parking (parallel to these services), thereby maximizing the buildable area.

After an extensive development permit and rezoning process with the City of Surrey, these challenges were turned into opportunities with the final design providing an elegant, tilt-up construction complex clad, with a multiple unit sizes of regular and irregular configurations, in turn responding to a wider marketplace. Due to the linear layout and length of the complex, the building is serviced by two lobby entrances with commercial CRUs on the main level and professional offices on the upper level. The complex is articulated with masonry veneer and painted revealed concrete to minimize the linear nature of the design and provide individual identification of the ground floor units.

Landscaping included a generous front-paved plaza area complete with seating and soft landscaping, which clients and staff can enjoy in nice weather.

Architectural and Interior Design

Surrey Metro Savings

Location
Sardis, BC
Completion
1998
Size
4,500 sq ft – 418 sq m

Boldwing Continuum was approached by Surrey Metro Savings (now Coast Capital Savings) to provide architectural and interior design services for the design of their new branch within a new 2-storey office complex in the Fraser Valley.

The site development was restricted by the Fortis Gas ROW diagonally bisecting the property and the required front setback to Luckakuck Way, limiting the building footprint and creating numerous challenges in providing distinct and separate entrances for the branch and the upper-floor office component as well as required customer and staff parking and the provision of the ATM drive-through aisle.

The stand-alone branch requirements involved new corporate interiors that had been developed in previous branches at Strawberry Hill and Fleetwood by key BCAI personnel. Spatial requirements included a secured vestibule for ATM, a drive-through ATM, a banking hall with separate financial service representative offices, cash dispensing units, vault, personnel staff room and support spaces. The use of glazed sliding doors to the offices provided natural light into the banking hall while still maintaining the privacy for customers.

Architectural and Interior Design

Acura of Langley

Location
Langley, BC
Completion
2000
Size
10,500 sq ft – 975 sq m

Boldwing Continuum was approached by Acura of Langley to provide architectural and interior design services for the design of Acura’s first dealership in Metro Vancouver.

Acura of Langley acquired an existing outdated dealership on the Langley Bypass and required the facility to be renovated to Acura’s corporate dealership brand standards. The existing site consisted of two stand-alone buildings. To enhance the customer experience, a single-storey link with a single-loaded glazed corridor was used to connect the showroom to the service, shop and parts departments. The courtyard created by the newly connected complex serves as a customer delivery area and service department drop off. The street-facing building was converted into a welcoming and open showroom naturally brightened with new glazing and an enhanced skylight, a feature typical to original Acura showrooms.

Recently, the Acura dealership was acquired by an automotive conglomerate and relocated to a larger facility within the Langley area. The existing facility is now occupied by a pre-owned vehicle dealership.
